Mid-winter has officially arrived in the Eastern Cape, and the nights in Port Alfred have turned incredibly cold. For many vulnerable families in our local communities, keeping warm is not just a matter of comfort—it is a daily struggle for health and survival.

At the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SSVP) Port Alfred, our mission is to step into these gaps and provide immediate, practical relief. Thanks to a highly generous donation from Hanly’s, we recently received 50 thick, high-quality grey blankets to boost our winter distribution efforts!

Our dedicated members have been busy distributing these blankets directly to families during our weekly home visits, ensuring they go straight into the hands of those who need them most.

While blankets are our first line of defense against the freezing night temperatures, winter brings a variety of challenges. Along with the blankets, our team has been actively sorting, organizing, and distributing a wide assortment of donated winter clothing to local children and adults.

From warm jackets and trousers to beanies and socks, every single item donated by the community helps us wrap a neighbor in warmth and dignity.
